Lakeland Police Request Help to Identify Bank Robber

The Lakeland Police Department is requesting the assistance of the public to identify a man  who robbed the Platinum Bank, 724 South Florida Avenue, on Wednesday, January 30, 2008. 

Anyone with information in this robbery can please call Detective David Anderson, Lakeland Police Department at 863.834.8958, or request to speak to the on-call CIS Supervisor at 863.834.6900.

The 14 year old victim of the accidental K-9 bite is Shakeira Smiley, DOB:  1/4/93, who resides at 1440 1/2 N Lincoln Av, Lakeland, Florida.

Lakeland Police Dog Accidentally Bites Citizen

Lakeland Police Officers responded to a landlord tenant dispute at 1440 1/2 North Lincoln Avenue, Lakeland, Florida, on January 18, 2008.  A citizen made contact with the K-9 officer's deployment device causing the police vehicle door to be opened.  The K-9 deployed and instinctively reacted as trained to protect the officer.

Update: Lakeland Police Officer Fires Weapon After Fleeing Van Tries to Hit Him

Lakeland Police Officer David Cook fired numerous rounds this afternoon at a vehicle fleeing from police when the van's driver tried to deliberately strike the officer as he attempted to deploy stop-stiks to disable the vehicle.

The driver, Kevin Applegate, W/M, DOB: 04/04/63, was subsequently apprehended by a police K-9 after he tried to flee on foot.

Cook was not struck by the van, but he did receive minor injuries during the incident and was treated at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Applegate was not struck by any of the gunshots, but received treatment at LRMC for dog bite wounds. Charges are pending at this time.
